Take Time to be Still
Rushing here… rushing there… rushing here and everywhere… That’s the typical modern life in Singapore and in many other parts of the world.
Our schedules are packed. We have objectives and goals to meet. We have this to do and that to finish up. We have Mr Client to meet and Ms Boss to please.
How many of us take time to be still for a friend? For a spouse? For a child? For a family member? How many of us take the time to hear their heartbeats, their aspirations, their disappointments, their joys, their struggles, their victories. How many of us take the time to share that pain or that joy?
We know that relationships are closely knit because we take time to be still for one another. The same goes for our relationship with our living God. He has time for you. Do you have time for Him?
How often do we be still and commune with Him? Listen to Him? Putting every other concern aside… be it our exams, our financial plans, our careers, our household chores, our blogging :p… and just be still with the Lord?
Read God’s Word
Was His Word written down all for nothing? It was written down for us to read… for us to understand God… for us to understand what He has done, what He is gonna do, what He will do, what He will not do, etc etc etc…
God deliberately left behind the written word to tell us many things. If we do not read it, how can we say that He has not spoken to us? How can we say that we cannot know Him?
Read your own Journal / Observe the Lives of Others
The bible is written about other people – their experiences with God. And through those experiences, we understand God’s character.
But those written in the bible were in the past and some have yet to come. What about God in your life? Specifically your life?
Is God an everlasting God? Yes.
Is God a biased God who only blessed those in the past? No.
He still blesses, He still teaches, He still touches, He still loves, He still transforms lives – including yours and the lives of others around you whom you know.
He speaks through the cicumstances and the people around you. Sometimes, you just know it that when something happens… it was from God. Record it down. Record each and every instance down.
When you look back at your records… you see a life that has always been blessed and loved by the Living God. You see a God who was always there even during your darkest moments. You see an unfailing God.
Read 1 Samuel 17:34-37
But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37 The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.”
David had a “journal” – he remembered how God protected him from the paws of the lion and the bear. Hence, he trusts that God will be with him to overcome Goliath.
So the next time you meet a situation with uncertain future, look into your Journal… was God there for you for other situations? So, through your journal, what is God saying to you about your future, abt this situation you are facing? You can hear God speak through your own life too.
So how do we know God? How do we know what He is saying to us?
Read His Word…
And know that He is God.
